Arranging disconnections

connectnow helps Aussie home movers disconnect services from their previous address everyday. It’s an important part of moving that can be easily forgotten. Failure to notify your utility suppliers can leave you paying for someone else’s bills until either you, or the new occupant, notify the supplier of the move.

When should you organise your disconnection?

Electricity and Gas

Generally speaking, you need to provide a minimum of 4 business days notice to allow your electricity and gas retailers to disconnect your home. They will arrange for a meter read to be performed at your current home.

To disconnect your electricity and gas a special meter read needs to be taken so that your utility suppliers can produce a final account for the premises.

Telephone, Water and Pay TV

For telephone and water disconnections it is best to let us know at least 2 business days before you vacate the property.

How does the disconnection process work?

You can either spend your time calling around and waiting on hold, or connectnow can take the leg work out by handling multiple disconnections for you. Option 1: Arrange your disconnections online

You can arrange disconnections online. After you arrange your services with connectnow by using our online move home tool or after having spoken to a consultant, you'll receive a connectnow account including login details. Simply log in to the connectnow website using these details and click on the 'Add Disconnection' button.

You will need to provide:

  • your disconnection address
  • your current supplier name
  • the disconnection date
  • home telephone number (if disconnecting your landline phone)*
  • the name on your account, and
  • your account number

Once you’ve completed these details online we will sort out your disconnections for you and contact you only if there are any problems with the information provided.

Option 2: Arrange your disconnections over the phone

connectnow can arrange your disconnections over the phone. Simply give us a call on 1300 554 323 and one of our move home consultants will take you through the disconnection process.

Please ensure you have the below information handy before calling us:

  • your disconnection address
  • your current supplier name
  • the disconnection date
  • home telephone number (if disconnecting your landline phone)*
  • the name on your account, and
  • your account number

*Only residential telephone numbers can be disconnected using this service.
